The 17th congress has set the goal of building a strong and clean Party organisation and political system; maximising the strength of the entire population; and mobilising and efficiently using resources to turn Hue into a distinctive heritage city of Vietnam, and one of Southeast Asia’s major cultural, tourism, and specialised healthcare hubs by 2030.

Hue (VNA) – The 17th Congress of the Party Organisation of Hue city for the 2025–2030 tenure takes place from October 2 – 4, the first since Hue became a centrally-run city on January 1.

Despite difficulties at the beginning of the 2020–2025 tenure, Hue fulfilled 14 out of the 15 targets set by the 16th congress. The most historic milestone during this period was the former Thua Thien–Hue province becoming Vietnam’s sixth centrally-run city. Among the 34 provinces and cities nationwide, Hue is the only locality in Vietnam and Southeast Asia to possess eight UNESCO-recognised world cultural heritages, including six belonging solely to it and two shared with other localities.

In 2025, Hue is hosting the national tourism year programme. In the first seven months, the city welcomed more than 4 million visitors, and is aiming for 6 million tourists and 11 – 12 trillion VND (416.77 – 454.66 million USD) in tourism revenue by the year’s end.

Tourism recovery, infrastructure development, and stronger investment attraction have spurred Hue’s economic growth at an average annual rate of 7.54% during the tenure, higher than the national average. Compared to 2020, the city’s economy has expanded 1.7 times, with per capita GRDP in 2025 reaching 3,200 USD, and the poverty rate falling to 1.15%.

It also aims for Hue to become a national centre of science, technology, and multi-disciplinary, high-quality education and training, as well as a strong maritime economic hub, while ensuring solid defence and security and improving people’s living standards.
