Hanoi (VNA) – Four additional military flights are expected to deliver essential supplies to flood-isolated communities in the central province of Nghe An on July 25, according to the National Civil Defence Steering Committee.
On July 24, following a directive of the Ministry of National Defence, the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army dispatched a working group to the locality to coordinate emergency aid efforts in areas cut off by floodwaters.
The Rescue and Relief Department under the General Staff organised six relief flights on July 24, transporting approximately 18 tonnes of goods to Tuong Duong, Ky Son, My Ly, Nhon Mai, and Con Cuong communes.
In line with the Prime Minister's Dispatch No. 120/CD-TTg and the General Staff's Dispatch No. 4244/CD-TM, both issued on July 23, military units across the country have been mobilised to respond to the aftermath of Typhoon Wipha and floods.
The units have been directed to proactively prepare and deploy personnel and equipment to address incidents, assist with search and rescue efforts, support flood-hit residents, and minimise losses of life and property while ensuring the safety of all personnel and assets involved in the operations.
According to the steering committee, the storm’s remnants caused severe damage, including three dead, two missing, and 122 collapsed houses in Nghe An, and 539 homes unroofed with 417 in Nghe An and 122 in Thanh Hoa. There were 29 landslide spots along roads in the two provinces, and three damaged dikes in Thanh Hoa. Flooding also affected 21,802 ha of crops, including 19,391 ha in Thanh Hoa and 2,411 ha in Nghe An, while 293.8 ha of industrial trees were flattened in Nghe An.
To aid recovery efforts, Military Region 4 has mobilised 9,293 personnel including 3,168 soldiers and 6,125 members of the militia and self-defense forces, along with 91 vehicles and 66 boats of various types to assist local communities in flood-hit areas./.
