Da Nang (VNA) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 1 requested the central city of Da Nang to well implement three pioneering tasks to achieve balanced, rapid, and sustainable development.

At a working session with the Standing Board of the municipal Party Committee on the city’s socio-economic development results in the first seven months of 2024 and the directions and tasks for the upcoming period, Chinh stressed that Da Nang must lead in perfecting institutions of the socialist-oriented market economy; in innovating and effectively applying scientific achievements, and developing green economy, digital economy, circular economy, and sharing economy; and in decentralisation, allocation of resources, and administrative procedure reform.

The Government leader urged the city's officials to gain a thorough understanding of the city's role, position, potential, and importance, as well as its mission as a leader, pioneer, an economic driver in the north central and central coastal regions, and a growth hub for the central region and the entire country.

Efforts should be made to successfully achieve the goals and tasks set for 2024 and the entire term, striving for a GRDP growth rate of 8-8.5% in 2024, and ensuring major balances, controlling inflation, and stabilising the macro-economy, Chinh stated.

He required the city to maximise all resources for development; increase the effectiveness of investment attraction and use; speed up digital transformation as well as the building of digital administration, digital society and digital citizen; and enhance the research, development and application of artificial intelligence (AI).

The PM also reminded the city that socio-economic development should be coupled with the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values and environmental protection, the effective settlement of social issues, enhancement of integration and foreign relations, strengthening of national defence and security, and the maintenance of political stability, social order, and safety.

He highlighted the importance of building the Party and the political system in a transparent and strong direction, improving the leadership capacity and the combat strength of Party organisations and members.

The Prime Minister also asked ministries and sectors to coordinate with and support Da Nang in carrying out its tasks, particularly in addressing related issues and promoting development.

According to the municipal Party Committee, the city’s GRDP growth rate is estimated at 5% in the first half of 2024. In the first seven months, the city served 6.6 million tourists and earned over 20 trillion VND (804 million USD) from tourism, up 33% and 30% year-on-year, respectively. Its index of industrial production (IIP) rose by 4.7%, and total import-export turnover is estimated at over 1.8 billion USD, up 11.5%. As of August 15, its total state budget revenue had topped 16 trillion VND, achieving 85.23% of the yearly estimate./.
