Vietnamese, Egyptian leaders agree to beef up parliamentary cooperation

The two leaders agreed to promote the role of parliamentary diplomacy and strengthen cooperation between the two legislative bodies by stepping up delegation exchanges to share legislative and supervision experiences, continuing close coordination at multilateral inter-parliamentary forums, and promoting exchanges between young and female parliamentarians.

Cairo (VNA) – Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong met with President of the Egyptian Senate Abdel-Wahab Abdel-Razeq in Cairo on August 6, as part of his state visit to the African country.

Welcoming the Vietnamese leader, Abdel-Razeq emphasised that the visit comes at a very timely moment, marking the beginning of a new phase in the development of bilateral relations across all fields, promising a brighter future for both countries and their people.

Proposing the two nations enhance political trust and mutual understanding, he affirmed that the Egyptian Senate is eager to strengthen cooperation with the National Assembly of Vietnam and will take all necessary measures to support the two states and governments in effectively and substantively implementing commitments and cooperation plans, for the benefit of their people.

For his part, President Cuong emphasised that there remains significant untapped potential for Vietnam and Egypt to further strengthen their bilateral cooperation, especially in economy, trade, and investment, to be commensurate with the strong political relationship and the respective advantages of each country.

He proposed the two parliaments closely coordinate and support the effective implementation of bilateral collaboration mechanisms, facilitate negotiations, and finalise policies and agreements to improve the legal framework, thus helping to enhance business-to-business cooperation, open markets for each other's goods, and foster greater people-to-people connectivity.

The two leaders agreed to promote the role of parliamentary diplomacy and strengthen cooperation between the two legislative bodies by stepping up delegation exchanges to share legislative and supervision experiences, continuing close coordination at multilateral inter-parliamentary forums, and promoting exchanges between young and female parliamentarians.

They also reached consensus on the early establishment of Vietnam – Egypt and Egypt - Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Groups to facilitate regular communication and jointly propose measures to boost parliamentary cooperation.

On this occasion, President Cuong conveyed an invitation from National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to the President of the Egyptian Senate to pay an official visit to Vietnam in the near future. The latter expressed his sincere thanks and gladly accepted the invitation.

This marked the final activity in President Cuong’s state visit to Egypt. At noon on August 6 (local time), the President, his spouse, and the Vietnamese delegation left Cairo, concluding their visit to Egypt, and setting off for a state visit to Angola./.
