Cao Bang (VNA) – Following the severe damage caused by Typhoons Bualoi and Matmo, the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang has swiftly rolled out relief and recovery efforts to help residents stabilise their lives.
According to Vu Khac Quang, Vice Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF Cao Bang), thousands of individuals, organisations and businesses nationwide have responded to the committee’s appeal for assistance. To date, donations have reached over 63 billion VND (nearly 2.4 million USD), along with 500 tonnes of rice and a wide range of essential goods, including food, medicine and daily necessities for disaster-affected residents.
VFF Cao Bang has promptly allocated resources to communes and wards, enabling localities to purchase necessary supplies and equipment for relief operations. Large-capacity pumps have been deployed to clean up flood-affected areas and remove mud and debris, contributing to environmental sanitation efforts.
To ensure effective distribution, he said the province has set up a communication network to accurately assess the specific needs of each locality, preventing redundant supplies, as remote regions face shortages due to limited accessibility.
The committee has also coordinated with donors to select aid items suited to the actual needs of residents. At present, there is a shortage of kitchen utensils, household items, medicine and farming tools, he added.
Building on experience, charity efforts are now better coordinated to ensure aid reaches affected residents directly while avoiding flooded or congested routes. Local authorities are swiftly assessing damage so the provincial VFF Committee can promptly allocate financial support to households suffering losses in housing, crops and livestock.
Quang noted that current support policies only cover farming households, leaving small traders and business owners who also suffered severe losses without assistance. The province has therefore proposed specific measures to help them resume operations.
The committee is also coordinating with Vingroup’s Thien Tam Fund to assist affected residents in rebuilding their homes. More support has come from various localities and agencies, including Son La province, the Ministry of Public Security, and Xuan Truong company in Ninh Binh province.
To facilitate the work of charity organisations, Cao Bang has promptly reopened key transport routes, provided guidance on the safest travel paths, ensured relief goods are not left stranded, and maintained seamless communication between aid groups and local authorities, thus enhancing the overall efficiency of disaster relief efforts. /.
