Great national unity bloc must become endless source of strength: Party leader

The Party chief also expressed his hope that during this new term, clear changes will be seen at the grassroots level, with fewer meetings, more work and actions; fewer slogans, more results; and fewer formalities, more smiles from the people.

Hanoi (VNA) - Party General Secretary To Lam on September 23 called for extra efforts to ensure the great national unity bloc becomes an endless source of strength for a prosperous, happy, and developed Vietnam, which is able to steadfastly move toward the two centennial goals set by the Party, and expected by the people.

The Party chief made the appeal while addressing the first Congress of the Party Organisation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Central Mass Organisations for the 2025-2030 term. The September 22-23 event saw the participation of 346 delegates representing over 5,000 members of the Party Organisation.

He stressed that this is a special political event, as it is the first congress of a new model, representing the great national unity bloc in the context of the entire political system undergoing a strong shift in line with the spirit of Resolution 18 on reorganising the political apparatus to become more streamlined, efficient, and effective.

The General Secretary emphasised that the Front is the people, and its strength lies in the strength of the people's will. The tradition of the Front is unity - unity to build, defend and develop the country; and unity to stabilise society, improve people's lives, and achieve the nation’s major goals.

As the 2025-2030 term poses new requirements, the Party chief suggested three consistent guiding viewpoints: Taking the people as the centre, subject, goal and driving force of innovation; expanding democracy at the grassroots level, promoting social dialogue, along with enforcement discipline, rule of law, and respect for differences; and shifting from formal movements to substantive results, based on data and statistics, with priority given to models that can be rapidly scaled up, are cost-effective, have a significant impact on people’s lives, and bring practical benefits to them.

He highlighted the necessity to perfect the organisation and coordination mechanism; consolidate and expand the great national unity bloc with the principle of “no one left behind,” implement the digital front portal to receive petitions around the clock; organise a “Listening to the People” month at all levels and areas; and establish an interactive map of social issues.

Promoting Vietnam’s valuable characteristic of having no religious or ethnic conflicts to develop the great national unity bloc; strengthening a culture of tolerance, harmony, and consensus; transforming differences into distinctiveness and a driving force for national development; and better caring for the lives and wellbeing of the people are also essential, the Party leader stressed.

General Secretary Lam also suggested several milestones for the Congress to consider and decide upon. Within three months after the Congress, it is necessary to complete the consolidation of the organisation, launch the digital front portal, and select one pilot model in each province/city on social dialogue and one pilot model on community welfare.

Within six months, there is a need to simultaneously organise the “Listening to the People” month at all levels and in all organisations and unions of the Front; operate an interactive map of social issues. Within one year, the top leader urged conducting an independent assessment of the provincial-level social trust index, announcing community welfare results, and replicating the social dialogue model if it meets the set criteria.

The General Secretary emphasised that safeguarding the Party’s ideological foundation, strengthening people’s trust, preserving cultural identity, and fostering creativity and compassion are soft yet extremely solid defences of the nation.

The Front must be the place where the bonds between the Party, the State, and the people are woven; and where sound guidelines are turned into sound actions and sound results, he noted.

The Party chief also expressed his hope that during this new term, clear changes will be seen at the grassroots level, with fewer meetings, more work and actions; fewer slogans, more results; and fewer formalities, more smiles from the people./.
