Da Nang (VNA) - State President Luong Cuong on November 18 attended the Great National Unity Festival in Bao An village, Go Noi commune, Da Nang city, on the occasion of the 95th traditional day of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (November 18, 1930 – 2025), which is also the 2025 Great National Unity Day.

On behalf of Party and State leaders, President Cuong extended his heartfelt sympathy to people of Da Nang city and communities across the country for the losses and damage caused by storms and floods. He showed his profound gratitude to frontline forces, including the military and police, village and commune officials, authorities at all levels, and citizens nationwide, who have shared what they have, braved dangers, and devoted themselves to protecting the lives and property of the people.

He affirmed that solidarity is a cultural and historical tradition, forged over thousands of years, and has always been the source of strength in the nation’s history of building and defending the Fatherland.

Drawing from the strength of solidarity, self-reliance, and resilience, the entire people and armed forces, under the leadership of the Party, have overcome countless hardships and challenges, defeated all invading enemies, reunified the country, and achieved great, historically significant accomplishments over 40 years of renewal, giving the nation the stature, potential, position, and international reputation it enjoys today, he said.

The President emphasised that throughout history, the spirit of unity has enabled the Vietnamese people to overcome all difficulties and challenges, and achieve one victory after another, with significant contributions from the armed forces and people of Da Nang city, as well as residents of all 17 villages in Go Noi commune.

In this new phase of national development, as the country enters an era to build a wealthy, prosperous, happy, and enduring Vietnam, the strength of great national unity becomes more important than ever, he noted.

The State leader requested Da Nang city, including Go Noi commune, to continue renewing the content and methods of operation, and strongly promote the people’s mastery. He emphasised the need to enhance grassroots democracy, strengthen dialogue, listen to the voices of the people, and truly place them at the centre, and consider them as subjects, goals, and driving forces of development. He also urged the building of a truly streamlined, efficient, effective, and people-oriented local administration that stays close to and serves the people.

Go Noi must further improve the living standards and incomes of its residents; effectively implement social welfare policies, especially for policy beneficiaries, people with meritorious service, and vulnerable groups, ensuring that no one is left behind. It should proactively develop adaptive measures and build a safe community amidst increasingly complex and unpredictable climate change and natural disaster patterns, President Cuong suggested.

The President emphasised that the Party and State have been doing everything possible to promptly support people in flood-hit areas so they can quickly stabilise their lives; and urged the Government and authorities at all levels and sectors to develop a comprehensive strategy for responding to natural disasters, prioritise budget allocations for upgrading dikes, combating urban flooding, and preventing landslides in mountainous areas, as well as encourage the construction of floating houses and houses on concrete stilts in low-lying areas prone to inundation and tidal flooding.
