Vietnam racks up martial arts golds at SEA Games 33 as karate, taekwondo athletes shine

Vietnam's martial arts teams continued their strong performance on December 13 at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, with karate and taekwondo leading the charge through multiple gold medals.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam's martial arts teams continued their strong performance on December 13 at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, with karate and taekwondo leading the charge through multiple gold medals.

The karate squad dominated, securing three golds. Hoang Thi My Tam captured the women's 61kg title, followed by Dinh Thi Huong defending her women's 68kg crown with an 8-5 win over an Indonesian rival.

Nguyen Thanh Truong added to the haul in the men's 84kg category, outpointing Indonesia's Arif Fadhillah 4-1 for the gold, while Vo Van Hien took a silver in the men's 75kg after losing the final to another Indonesian opponent.

In taekwondo, Tran Thi Anh Tuyet starred by claiming a gold in the women's 53-57kg sparring, edging the host Thailand's fighter 2-1 across three tightly contested rounds, marking Vietnam's fourth taekwondo gold of the Games. Nguyen Thi Loan earned a silver in the women's 49-53kg category, and Ly Hong Phuc took a silver in the men's 74kg after his final against an Indonesian.

The ju-jitsu team settled for a silver in the mixed team event, falling to Thailand in the final.

Boxer Dao Dai Hai advanced to the men's 64kg semifinals with a quarterfinal victory over a Thai opponent, securing at least a bronze medal.

Weightlifter Thu Trang claimed a bronze in the women's 48kg category, succeeding on a 98kg opening lift but missing her next two attempts, finishing with a total of 181kg.

Meanwhile, the women's table tennis team suffered a 1-3 defeat to Thailand in the team event./.

SEA Games 33: Shooting, Wushu secure silvers

On the Wushu mat, Dang Tran Phuong Nhi secured a silver medal after competing in the women’s southern fist, southern staff and southern broadsword events, finishing with a total score of 29.112 points.

SEA Games 33: Vietnam excels with record-breaking performances

The trio of Nguyen Thuy Trang, Trinh Thu Vinh and Trieu Thi Hoa Hong delivered an impressive performance in the women’s 10m air pistol team event on December 14. Competing with consistency and precision, the Vietnamese shooters amassed a total of 1,711 points to win the gold medal and shatter the SEA Games record.

Vietnam Pho Day launched in Europe amid broader culinary push

Prior to the launch, the Vietnamese Embassy encouraged businesses and restaurants throughout Germany to join in the event. By December 12, six partners had signed up via the We Love Pho organisation's website (welovepho.org), committing to promotional posts, website and social media shares, features in Vietnamese language media, and special discounts for pho customers during the event.

SEA Games 33: Vietnam win gold in women's canoe double

In the qualifying round, they led with a time of 44.875 seconds. In the final, the duo continued to display outstanding form, completing the race in 43.419 seconds, finishing first ahead of strong competitors from Indonesia and Thailand.
