Buenos Aires (VNA) – Vietnam and Uruguay are looking to further boost their friendship and cooperation across multiple areas, especially in Party and parliamentary exchanges, according to discussions between Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay Ngo Minh Nguyet and a delegation from Uruguay’s Movement of Popular Participation (MPP) in Buenos Aires on October 27.

The Uruguayan delegation was led by MP Victor Aldaya, a representative of the MPP — one of the key parties in the ruling Broad Front (FA) coalition of Uruguay.

At the meeting, Nguyet highlighted the sound relations between Vietnam and Uruguay over the past more than 30 years, particularly the ties between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and left-wing parties in Uruguay, including the Communist Party of Uruguay and the MPP, both members of the FA coalition.

The ambassador expressed hope for stronger ties between the CPV and political parties in Uruguay, enhanced delegation exchanes, and strengthened parliamentary cooperation, including activities of friendship parliamentarians’ groups.

Nguyet said Vietnam is working closely with authorities in Montevideo to build a statue of President Ho Chi Minh at Vietnam Park in the Uruguayan capital. A commemorative plaque honouring the late President will also be placed at Montevideo Port, one of the stops on his global journey in 1912 to seek a path for national salvation.

For his part, Aldaya expressed deep admiration for the resilience of the Vietnamese people throughout their struggle for independence as well as their cause of national development. He praised Vietnam’s impressive achievements in politics, economy, and social affairs, especially its remarkable progress during 40 years of the Doi Moi (Renewal) process.

Aldaya reaffirmed his determination to further strengthen cooperation between the MPP and the FA coalition, and the CPV, thereby contributing to the relations between the two nations./.
