HCM City gathering marks Thailand’s 98th National Day, cements bilateral bonds

Thailand is currently Vietnam’s largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and both countries are working towards the target of 25 billion USD in bilateral trade this year. Thailand is also among the top ten investors in Vietnam, with registered capital exceeding 13.7 billion USD.

HCM City (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) on December 2 held a get-together to mark the 98th National Day of Thailand (December 5, 1927 – 2025), reflecting the warm friendship and solidarity between the people of the two sides.

In her congratulatory remarks, Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, Chairwoman of the Vietnam–Thailand Friendship Association of HCM City, noted that 49 years after the establishment of diplomatic ties, the relations between Vietnam and Thailand have continued to flourish, with 2025 witnessing positive progress across politics, economy, education, defence and people-to-people exchanges.

Thailand is currently Vietnam’s largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and both countries are working towards the target of 25 billion USD in bilateral trade this year. Thailand is also among the top ten investors in Vietnam, with registered capital exceeding 13.7 billion USD.

In the southern economic hub, the Thai business community now has more than 120 investment projects operating effectively in the fields of high technology, logistics, clean energy, commerce and tourism. Both sides are also actively implementing strategies on connectivity in the three areas of supply-chain, green economy and policy.

Hieu affirmed that in 2026, as the two countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the association will further strengthen cooperation with the Thai Consulate General, Thai enterprises and the Thai community in the city, thereby helping to deepen and solidify the friendly and cooperative ties between Vietnam and Thailand.

Wiraka Moodhitaporn, Thai Consul General in HCM City, stated that 2025 marks a historic milestone in the bilateral relations as the two countries have upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reflecting profound mutual trust and a shared vision for peace, prosperity and sustainable development.

The diplomat stressed that, in the journey of strengthening their ties, friendship associations play an irreplaceable role as a key mechanism for fostering people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding, bringing the two countries closer./.
