Ca Mau (VNA) – The Ca Mau provincial Party Committee on July 23 announced the completion of its 2025 programme to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, following the administrative unit merger.
According to the provincial People’s Committee, the programme has yielded positive and practical outcomes. A total of 9,671 households—including revolution contributors, families of war martyrs, and low-income or near-poor households—have received support for new housing construction or home repairs. The initiative also covered those targeted by the national target programme on socio-economic development in ethnic and mountainous areas.
The total funding allocated to the programme exceeded 471.6 billion VND (over 18 million USD).
Prior to the merger, the former Ca Mau province had finalised its housing plan and held a review meeting on June 18. It completed the construction or repair of 4,400 houses, fully meeting the project’s targets nearly three months ahead of the provincial schedule and almost five months earlier than the national timeline. Total investment for the local phase was nearly 236 billion VND.
Meanwhile, the former Bac Lieu province, now part of the new Ca Mau, had commenced construction on over 5,000 houses under the same initiative. Of these, nearly 2,500 homes for revolution contributors and families of martyrs had begun construction by July 19. More than 2,500 others for poor and near-poor households were completed, meeting 100% of the target. Additionally, by April 30, 176 homes had been built for poor ethnic minority households, fulfilling the goal.
Provincial authorities attributed the programme’s success to strong coordination across political and community levels, with widespread contributions from officials, residents, and donors both within and outside the province.
Secretary of the Ca Mau Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai praised the efforts and commitment by local Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front, mass organisations, businesses, and especially the local population, who have collectively helped deliver better houses for thousands of families in need.
Looking ahead, Hai called for continued public outreach to promote the programme’s humanitarian value and mobilise broader support from individuals, businesses, and philanthropists. He also urged local authorities to identify households still facing housing difficulties and propose further assistance.
