Border guards in Dien Bien support local communities in escaping poverty

Na Bung commune in Dien Bien province remains one of the most disadvantaged areas, with over 50% of households living in poverty. Local livelihoods largely depend on small-scale farming and natural conditions. In recent years, officers and soldiers of Na Bung Border Guard Station have worked closely with residents to boost economic development, reduce poverty, and build a better life.

Looking ahead, Lam Dong will continue to mobilise resources through the provincial “For the Poor” Fund, socialised contributions from corporations, businesses, philanthropists, organisations and individuals to provide housing support for poor and near-poor households and those in difficult circumstances, helping them stabilise their lives.

All 34 localities complete the goal of eradicating makeshift and dilapidated houses

By August 17, 2025, the nationwide movement had built and renovated 334,234 houses, finishing 5 years and 4 months ahead of schedule. Recognised as a “special national project” to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day, it mobilised 454,318 participants, over 2.7 million working days, and 24.76 trillion VND from State budget, social resources, and local communities.

According to the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs and Religion, as of July 19, 2025, a total of 266,511 makeshift and dilapidated houses across the country have received support for reconstruction. Of these, 231,513 have been completed, while construction has commenced on the remaining 34,998.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on ministries, central agencies, and local authorities to take urgent and coordinated action to fulfil the national goal of doing away with all makeshift and substandard housing by August 31, 2025.
